Snowden said something very interesting in his Joe Rogan interview – national security is not the same thing as public safety

He made the point that when the government cites national security as a reason for keeping something secret or breaking the law most people assume that to mean public safety. In reality national security refers to continuity of government.

So when you see NIST make their models of the trade center collapses secret for purposes of national security they are not saying this information will damage the public if it gets out, they are saying it will undermine the confidence in government.

The government is no longer representative, the public are the subjects.

He also said that conspiracies aren’t shadowy figures in rooms planning. It’s lawyers and government members having a blank cheque to write anything they do into law, even retroactively.

He said this about an hour and twenty five minutes in.
