Company I signed up for over email called up my neighbors to ask about me.

EDIT: AND JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS THE ALL-SEEING 1984 INGSOC EYE IS https://nextdoor.com

I signed up for a neighborhood website, which said they would verify my address by either calling me up on the phone or sending a post-card to my mailbox. OK, cool, sure, fine.

However, my neighbor just told me that they called him up at his home number to ask him if I live in his building. WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT? THE? FUCK? I am checking through their policy and fine print right now. But WHAT THE FUCK? Has anyone ever heard of this happening before, is there any precedent for such an absurd violation of a customer’s privacy? That’s like Amazon calling up my neighbors to ask if they’ve seen me wearing a new pair of shoes I bought.
