I’m a software engineer in the fortunate position of being able to go to ‘80% time’ and have an extra day off work every week. While I currently work ‘100% time’, I’m considering doing 80% time and donating the 20% I’d gain to a sustainability oriented charity, non-profit or even a commercial company (with the right incentives). I’m interested in all kinds of sustainability, e.g. social, environmental, ecological etc.
However, I’m having trouble thinking of opportunities for me to contribute to; ideally I’d do software engineering/programming (or related) work rather than anything else, since that’s where my expertise is. The best I’ve been able to come up with, is working pro-bono for a company that produces devices/software for ‘smart cities’.
If you know of an organisation that could use a remote-working software engineer (or is based in Southern Germany) or could use one day a week’s worth of work in any remote role, I’d love to hear about it, thanks!
N.b. I recognise that an alternative solution is to simply donate 20% of my income to sustainability oriented charities and continue to work 100%. This is a valid option but for now I’m primarily interested in donating time/effort/expertise/skill.
